The weekend gave me the highs and lows of my job. It was a bit fulfilling and i guess a bit frustrating.
Last friday, i had to "fire" one of the interns. it was difficult but i just had to. this was my 2nd time doing this (the first wasnt with an intern but with an office asst). He was just too crazy to be part of this cafe. He wouldnt even recognize a supervisor, much more me. Besides, these are house rules of the cafe. and for an intern, how dare he just break them... It is heart breaking though.
on the contrary, one of my baristas had the courage to ask her boss (your truly :)) for some career advice. I mean, me? career advice? but in the end i made her think and made her realize what she needed to know and help her decide of the opportunity that faces her. She sent me an sms of her decision late this morning, and i could never be so proud. what did i tell her? well it was as basic as "as long as it is part of the career goal that you want, and it is a stepping stone to get there, go for it! because at the end it is not with the company you work with that matters, but it is the experience, growth and learning that makes you get there." Thanks jennisa, you added meaning to my cafe manager experience!
