Greetings, Good Gentles and Ladies of the Freshman Batch 2004-2005,


Welcome to the Ateneo! There is so much to learn in being in college and in being an Atenean. I know what challenge it brings in adjusting to this new chapter in your life and It is definitely through a good start that you will be able to prepare and adjust as you proceed with your future here in the Ateneo.

Cross the threshold of Freshman Orientation Seminar 2004, more popularly known as ORSEM, an annual 3-day event that is set on June 7, 8 and 9, 2004. This will prepare you to your 4 to 5 year journey through out college with the assistance of both the student body and the administration.

Entitled ESCUDO, this year’s ORSEM is packed by the Ignatian value of Service, the identity of the Atenean as being Men and Women for Others. ESCUDO, the Spanish term for Coat of arms, is an arrangement of bearings that indicates ancestry and distinctions. As Ateneans, we are to share in the noble linage of St. Ignatius, who lived his life of generosity and bravery. The event is then characterized through the integrity of a knight, a knight in service to his fellowmen and a knight of Christ. It is through ORSEM 2004 that we would establish that as true Ateneans, we are called to be of service to others and of service to God. I, your ORSEM 2004 | ESCUDO project head, along with the hundreds of people who make your ORSEM happen, wish to share this Ignatian value of service as we welcome YOU to the Ateneo.

ORSEM has been a long tradition in the Atenean community. Now, being part of this community, you shall experience what each of us has gone through. There is so much to learn from these 3 days. We have prepared various activities that will familiarize you to the mighty halls of our school. You will meet friends from the administration down to your blockmates and this will definitely be one of the most unforgettable and significant friendships that you will ever have in your life. We will also immerse you more with the Ignatian spirit of service through introducing you to the different organizations that will perhaps cater to your interests and will be an avenue for you to be Men and Women for Others.

Perchance we will meet then, dearest Freshman. I and the rest of the Organizing Committee of ESCUDO| ORSEM2004 shall await for your arrival as we welcome you to the start of your college career.
