ESCUDO | ORSEM 2004

The start of one’s college career sets the pace for the rest of a 4-5 year journey. There is a lot to learn, a lot to accomplish, and a lot to establish, not just as a college student, but as a TRUE ATENEAN. It is through one’s start as an ATENEAN that he or she may be able to understand this identity of what it takes to be a TRUE ATENEAN. A TRUE ATENEAN that uses his wisdom from academics to be men and women for others.

Enter the Freshman Orientation Seminar, more popularly known as ORSEM. An Annual 3-day event, this year’s ORSEM is scheduled to take place on JUNE 7 8 and 9. The ORSEM is the largest student-organized and Administration-recognized event on campus, designed to introduce the freshmen to what will be their second home for the next 4-5 years.

Entitled ESCUDO, this year’s ORSEM is packed by the Ignatian value of Service, the identity of the Atenean as being men and women for others. ESCUDO, the Spanish/ Tagalog word for coat of arms. Coat of arms is an arrangement of bearings, usually depicted on and around a shield, that indicates ancestry and distinctions. It illustrates the identity of the family of their values and their achievements.

Guided by the shield our patron saint, St. Ignatius of Loyola, its representation of generosity, nobility and bravery, ESCUDO|ORSEM 2004 emphasizes the identity of the Atenean to be of service to his or her fellowmen. Its value for service as well as its achievement of its place in the Filipino Society.

ESCUDO|ORSEM2004 is characterized through the integrity of a Knight—a knight who is in service to his fellowmen and a knight of Christ. It is through ORSEM 2004 that we would establish that as Ateneans, we are called to be of service to others and to be of service someone higher.

ESCUDO’s vision is to be the right start to the journey that will define the freshmen as TRUE ATENEANS who are in service. We, the hundreds of people who will make ORSEM 2004 happen, wish to share this identity with our new friends.
